Sandwell College ESOL lecturer Jasbir Ranie is putting years of her textiles experience into making NHS scrubs.

She is volunteering for the NHS Loft 25 organisation to make essential PPE for nurses and doctors.

Jasbir explains: “I have lots of clothing industry experience as I had my own company called Ranee Fashions Ltd in the 1980s. I used to manufacture ladies’ garments in those days for Richards, Evans, Shasa Internationals and Debenhams.
“I had a Cut, Make and Trim factory and I still have two industrial sewing machines which I used. They were stored away but have come in good use now.”

Around 25 years ago, during the textile industry boom, Jasbir helped set up an NVQ level 1 and 2 textiles manufacturing centre in Lye and helped develop projects in Birmingham. She also gained textiles qualifications up to executive management level 5.
