We believe very strongly that life should be a level playing field, and the College has an excellent reputation for ensuring that everyone gets an equal opportunity to succeed. Our Hub Extra team is able to give individual, practical support to anyone who feels that they have additional needs, disabilities or other factors that may affect their learning or their enjoyment of College.

We offer one-to-one support sessions, specialist assessments, classroom support, literacy and numeracy programmes, and assistive computer software for learners who need help with their course work, or have specific learning, physical and/or mental health difficulties. Study Link includes:

Additional Needs
Additional Needs is a specialised service which offers assessments and support for learners with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD, autism, Asperger Syndrome, impaired vision or hearing, reduced mobility, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, arthritis and ME. You may also want support if English is not your first language. We can also offer communication support workers and interpreters for deaf students, readers/scribes and other support staff appropriate to your needs. To find out about the support available, please contact our Additional Needs Adviser in The Hub.

Foundation Learning
We offer a discrete provision for learners who may have a learning difficulty or disability, ADHD, autism or a physical disability, and need direct support. Our Foundation Learning section allows learners to study in two ways, either on a full-time basis or on a part-time basis.

Learners studying full-time will join the Foundation Learning Programme, where they will be given the opportunity to engage in challenging learning activities allowing them to develop a range of skills that follow a broad curriculum. The aim of this course is to develop students’ independence, work in practical ways to promote teamwork, and give students the chance to make choices about their future.

Learners studying part-time will join the Adult Programme, which aims to develop a specific area of skills in personal wellbeing, IT and employment.

You will be given a personal tutor who will help create an individual learning plan for you to identify targets to work towards.

If you require further information about any of these programmes, or you wish to apply for a place, please contact Elaine Groves at [email protected] or call Elaine direct on 0121 667 5050.

What Ofsted said about our special needs provision:
• Good pastoral support and effective communication with outside agencies ensures learners with specific needs receive the best possible care.
• Links with external agencies are good and enable the College to provide effective specialist support when it is needed.

Dyslexia Support
The College is one of only a few in the country to be awarded the ‘Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark Award’ by the British Dyslexia Association, for the excellent support given to our learners. The support offered includes: specialist assessments, one-to-one support sessions, classroom support, literacy and numeracy programmes and assistive computer software. If you want to find out more about the support available, please telephone Hilary Moore, Dyslexia Co-ordinator, on 0121 667 5371/5064 or email [email protected]
