We’ve nailed it! Sandwell College has been crowned West Midlands regional winner in the AoC Sport ‘Go the Distance’ lockdown challenges.
Competing against 70 colleges from all over the country, staff and students from Sandwell ran and walked 456 miles (the distance from Truro College to Northumberland College) and cycled 3369 miles (virtually visiting every AoC member college in the UK).
As one of only 10 colleges to complete the cycle challenge, and one of only nine to complete both challenges, we then qualified for the regional prize draw for achieving the total distance in each challenge. We were announced the winners today!
After 4 weeks of walking, running and cycling, staff and students from Sandwell College completed the Strava app challenge on Sunday. Individual distances completed by Team Sandwell members were added to the daily college total.
Sports Coordinator Matt Hammett said: “The cycle challenge proved a really tough nut to crack that we were only able to complete on the final day. The real beauty of this was also to be able to engage both staff and students together to represent Sandwell College, particularly in a safe and guided way during these difficult times. Well done to all staff and students that got involved.”
