Performing Arts students at Birmingham REP

Sandwell College Performing Arts students are exclusively invited to take part in a series of summer masterclasses in partnership with The Birmingham REP.

Theatre Making at The REP is a chance for current drama students and all those who have applied for Performing Arts at Sandwell to shake off their lockdown blues and get creative!

This five-day programme, running from August 3 to 7 (10am-1pm), will explore devising, movement, puppetry, monologues and audition techniques with Birmingham REP’s Creative Learning team.

This amazing opportunity – all in a safe, socially distanced environment – is available to all 15-19 year-old progressing students, applicants and alumni of Performing Arts.

Romeo and Juliet Reloaded is a week of online drama workshops led by REP practitioner Lucy Bird. This exciting introduction to Romeo and Juliet and the wider world of theatre from Birmingham REP Theatre runs from August 24 to 28 (11am-12.30pm).

The workshops will examine the meaning behind the text and what it means to be a director, actor, designer and writer. You will also complete fun and creative tasks and exercises relating to these roles.

Alex Summers, The REP’s Director of Creative Learning said: “We are delighted to be delivering these great programmes with Sandwell College students, both online and in person, and look forward to continued creative engagement with their Performing Arts team.”

Michelle King, Head of Creative Industries at Sandwell College, said: “This unique partnership with Birmingham Repertory Theatre is incredibly exciting for us – it will allow our students, both old and new, to develop their experience and skillset, whilst providing them with exclusive access to one of Birmingham’s biggest theatre brands.

“These masterclasses are a real representation of the opportunities offered as part of the creative industries curriculum, and we can’t wait to develop our relationship with The REP when teaching begins again.”

When you sign up you will be sent a Zoom link to access the online workshops. Students must commit to all five workshops.
