Award winner holding trophy with three presenters

Engineering student Maya Ghazal has won a Children’s Society Star Award for her dedication to raising awareness of the horrors young refugees can face.

Maya received her award at the society’s Over the Rainbow event, which recognises the success, resilience and determination of young people involved with the charity.

The 16-year-old from Syria has confidently spoken out at a number of events, including a public vigil in Birmingham in September to remember all the refugees who lost their lives while searching for safety.
