The Level 1 Diploma in Work-Based Animal Care course involves one full day a week on placement at Forge Mill Farm and three days in college.

You'll study the following modules:

  • Health and Safety
  • Assist with the care of animals
  • Principles of care of animals
  • Principles of accommodation
  • Assist with accommodation
  • Assist with the movement and handling of farm animals
  • Principles of handling and moving farm animals
  • Principles of dealing with foodstuff for small animals
  • Assist with feedstuffs for small animals

Visits will be arranged to places such as Chester Zoo, London Zoo, Birmingham Dogs’ Home, Crufts, Guide Dogs for the Blind and Proteus Reptile Trust.

Practical observation, photo evidence and written work.

On successful completion of this Level 1 Diploma in Work-Based Animal Care, you can progress to the Level 2 Diploma in Animal Care.
