This Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants is a one-year course aimed at school leavers and adults who want to progress into the Dog Grooming industry and learn the basics of dog grooming. The course is a pre-requisite for the Level 3 Dog Grooming qualification.
There are no formal entry requirements. You will be expected to buy the correct PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and scissor sets from the college. A placement within a grooming salon would be an advantage but is not a course requirement.
This Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants qualification is designed to help build knowledge and understanding while developing your work-based skills. It will give you the basis to start working in the dog grooming environment as an assistant.
There are different units to complete, which involve both practical and theory aspects. This is a full-time course held within the college, and the cost for students over 19 is £400.

You will need to provide your own grooming tabard and you are advised to purchase your own scissor set.
Guest speakers from the grooming industry will visit college. You will also visit Crufts and take part in lots of other activities throughout the year.
Assessment is made up of five synoptic assessments and one two-hour 60-question multiple choice exam paper (externally marked).
On successful completion of the Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants, you can progress on to the Level 3 Diploma for Professional Dog Grooming Stylists or gain employment in the industry.
