Our Health & Social Care students proudly hosted a Macmillan Coffee Afternoon at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital, raising more than £490 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Organised by our Year 1 learners, the event was a fantastic showcase of the talent, professionalism and enthusiasm of our students.
From welcoming visitors and serving refreshments to selling cakes and engaging with members of the public, they helped create a warm and welcoming atmosphere across both our hospital stand on Floor 5 and our base at the Learning Campus.
The event provided a valuable opportunity for students to put their learning into practice, developing their communication and interpersonal skills while speaking with patients, NHS colleagues and visitors about their experiences of studying Health & Social Care.
It was inspiring to see them growing in confidence, building connections within the local community and representing the College so positively.
A huge thank you to our NHS partners at Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust for supporting the event and giving our students the opportunity to host it within the hospital.
Working together in support of Macmillan Cancer Support demonstrates the positive impact that can be achieved when education, healthcare and the wider community come together for a shared cause.
Health & Social Care Lecturer Sophie Alexandris said: “We are absolutely delighted to share that, together, we raised an incredible £490.33. Our TOQ (Technical Occupational Qualification) Year 1 students were truly amazing throughout the event. The students demonstrated confidence and professionalism and it was fantastic to see them developing their communication skills, building connections with our local community and putting their learning into practice.”
