Celebrating World Tourism Day: Opening doors to global careers at Sandwell College

As the world celebrates World Tourism Day, Sandwell College is shining a spotlight on the exciting opportunities available to students studying Travel, Aviation and Hospitality, where classroom learning is combined with real industry experiences, international trips and valuable employer connections.

Tourism remains one of the world’s most dynamic industries, creating opportunities for people to explore new cultures, connect communities and support local economies. At Sandwell College, students develop the skills, confidence and industry knowledge needed to thrive in this fast-paced sector while gaining first-hand experience of what it takes to succeed.

One of the standout features of the College’s Travel, Aviation and Hospitality programmes is the wealth of enrichment opportunities available. Students have enjoyed a variety of UK and overseas educational visits, including trips to destinations such as London, Blackpool, Liverpool, Disney and Goa, helping them gain a deeper understanding of global tourism, customer expectations and cultural experiences.

Learning extends far beyond the classroom. Students benefit from access to Sandwell College’s on-campus Boeing 737 aircraft cabin, industry-standard facilities and specialist training, including British Airways Cabin Crew training. These experiences help prepare learners for careers across aviation, travel, hospitality and tourism.

Perhaps most importantly, students leave Sandwell College with strong links to some of the biggest names in the industry. Through work placements, employer engagement and industry partnerships, learners gain invaluable experience with organisations including Birmingham Airport, Mercure Hotel, Premier Inn and Co-operative Travel. Students on aviation pathways also have opportunities to work alongside major airlines and travel operators such as Jet2 and TUI.

The College has built relationships with a range of leading employers across the travel and aviation sector, helping students understand career pathways and develop the professional networks needed to succeed. Many former students have progressed into employment with major organisations including Jet2, Emirates, Swissport, Birmingham Airport and Accor Hotels, demonstrating the real-world impact of these industry connections.

Whether aspiring to become cabin crew, work at an international airport, manage hotels and resorts, organise events, or build a career in travel operations, students gain access to opportunities that help turn ambitions into reality.

As we mark World Tourism Day, Sandwell College continues to inspire the next generation of travel and tourism professionals, equipping them with practical experience, industry insight and connections with respected employers across the sector. For students with a passion for travel, adventure and customer service, the world really can become their workplace.
