The Sandwell Colleges proudly celebrated the success of apprentices and employers at this year’s Future Focus Apprenticeship Showcase & Awards, an inspiring evening that recognised the partnerships driving skills growth and opportunity across the region.
Bringing together apprentices, employers, and college teams, the event showcased how collaboration helps shape the workforce of tomorrow and bridge the local skills gap.
Opening the evening, Asa Gordon, Deputy Principal for Curriculum and Skills at The Sandwell Colleges, welcomed guests with a message about the power of apprenticeships to transform futures and strengthen communities. Debra McDermott, Director of Apprenticeships, followed with an overview of The Apprenticeship Journey, highlighting how the College continues to align training with real industry needs and develop the skilled professionals employers are looking for.
CEO and Principal Lisa Capper MBE later shared her thanks and admiration for both apprentices and employers, recognising their shared role in transforming lives and strengthening communities.
The audience also heard from Kevin Moane, Director of Four Oaks Construction, who shared how his family-run business has guided apprentices from college to long-term employment, building both careers and confidence. Kirstie Stuart, Head of HR and Support Services at the award-winning Doocey Group, reflected on the company’s ongoing commitment to growing homegrown talent and playing a key role in tackling sector-wide skills shortages.
Following a Q&A session hosted by Lisa Capper MBE, the Future Focus Apprenticeship Awards were presented by the Principal and Deputy Principal, recognising apprentices who have gone above and beyond in their learning journeys.

 - Apprenticeship Journey Award – Ronny Boyd, Doocey Group
 - Excellence in Attendance Award – Rhiannon Collins, Doocey Group
 - Future Focus Skills Award – Ty Antoine-Thompson, The Logistics Centre
 - Progression Champion Award – Karl Jeapes, PDS Direct
 - Inspirational Line Manager Award – Kevin Moane, Four Oaks Construction Ltd
 
Speaking after the event, Lisa Capper MBE, said: “Congratulations to all our incredible winners and nominees. This evening was about celebrating the impact of partnership, between passionate apprentices who are building their futures and employers who are investing in the workforce of tomorrow.
