The Pearson T Level in accounting is designed with employers, professional bodies and providers to provide students with knowledge and technical skills to pursue a career in accountancy. The T Level in Accounting with a specialism as an Accounts Assistant will provide understanding and competencies around financial accounting, book keeping, management accounting, taxation and payroll.

With accounting as a key element of all business, learners will always find a demand for these skills.

  • Vocational Tech Qualification at Merit or above plus English Language and Maths at grade 5 or above.

The Pearson T Level in Accounting (Assistant Accountant) focuses on the financial management that drives all businesses. The purpose of the T Level in Accounting is to ensure that students have the knowledge and skills needed to progress into highly skills employment, an Apprenticeship or Higher-Level study, including University within the specialism of Accountancy. By the end of the course learners are also well placed to go on to develop full occupational competence with additional development and support once employed within the accounting sector. 

The content of the course looks at a breadth of different areas of the accounting specialism from financial accounting to day to day management.

Year 2

  • Fundamentals of Financial Accounting including book keeping, financial statements, accounting standards, business performance (cashflow, budgeting and ratio analysis), Taxation and Auditing and Payroll.

  • A day in PWC/ EY/ KPMG
  • External Exams – there are two 2.5 hour external written examinations to assess the knowledge of learners. Each paper has 33.3% weighting to the overall core grade.
  • Employer Set Project – Learners will be given 12.5 hours to complete a series of tasks around a case study business where they will be asked to complete calculations, reports and evaluations for this business. It allows learners to be assessed on their English, Maths and Digital skills. This makes up 33.3% of the overall core grade.
  • Occupational Specialism – Assistant Accountant – A synoptic assessment that lasts 17 hours 25 minutes and is designed to assess key competencies required within the accountancy profession. This will involve a number of tasks including trial balances and reconciliation, financial statements, business performance, Taxation and Audits and Payroll. This makes up 100% of the assessment for the occupational specialism. 
  • Industry Placement – 315 hours minimum within the accountancy field.

The qualification carries UCAS points and is recognised by higher education providers as contributing to meeting admission requirements to many relevant courses, for example:

  • BSc (Hons) in Business and Management
  • BA (Hons) in Business and Finance
  • BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance
  • BSc (Hons) International Accounting

After this qualification, learners can also progress directly into employment, however it is likely that many will do so via higher study. Areas of employment include assistant accountant and payroll administrator. 

Additionally, this course can lead to further vocational study including Payroll Administrator and Assistant Accountant Apprenticeships, Accountants or Accountancy Technician professional qualifications.
