The Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering at Sandwell College is a comprehensive, two-year, full-time course designed to equip students with the technical knowledge and practical skills needed for a career in the engineering sector or further academic studies. It covers various aspects of engineering, including principles, processes, and project management, offering a blend of theoretical learning and hands-on experience.

GCSE Route:

Five GCSEs, including HIGHER Mathematics at Grade 5-6, English at Grade 4 or above, and 3 other relevant subjects at Grade 4 (C) or above.

Alternative Qualification:

Level 2 Diploma in Engineering at Distinction grade.

GCSE Mathematics at Grade 6 and English at Grade 4 (C)

· Engineering Principles

· Delivery of Engineering Processes Safely as a Team

· Engineering Product Design and Manufacture

· Specialist Engineering Project

· Units focusing on advanced mathematics, materials, and mechanical or electrical engineering.

· Develop problem-solving, analytical, and teamwork skills essential for engineering roles.

Guest speakers from industry are frequently invited to the college and there are also visits to local companies and engineering exhibitions. Recent activities have included visits to universities, companies, London and Blackpool.

· External Assessments: Includes formal examinations for three mandatory units.

· Internal Assessments: Assignments, practical tasks, and project work assessed by instructors.

· Work Experience: A minimum of 30 hours of industry work experience, supporting practical learning and assessment.

Higher Education: Pursue university degrees in engineering disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, civil, or aerospace engineering.

Higher Apprenticeships: Access engineering apprenticeships with advanced placement opportunities.

Employment: Entry-level positions as a technician engineer, CAD designer, or roles in manufacturing, design, or maintenance.
