Engineering: Powering the World Around Us

Engineering has a direct and vital impact on quality of life for everyone, providing solutions to real world problems and leading major transformation. Every product or construction used by modern society is influenced by Engineering.

Guided by Experts, Shaped for Industry

When you study Engineering at Sandwell College you will be guided every step of the way by our highly trained and experienced tutors to develop industrial skills, knowledge and expertise. So if you’re studying Electronic Systems you’ll learn how to safely carry out soldering activities, to produce working electronic circuits, as well as essential skills such as component identification. And if you’re studying Mechanical Systems you’ll learn how to safely carry out bench fitting activities such as marking out, drilling, cutting and filling accurately, before progressing to operating lathes and milling machines to produce machined components.

Study in a High-Tech, Hands-On Enviroment

You will study in purpose-built digital design suites with access to advanced CNC machines. AutoCAD, Siemens NX, Automation and Labview Multisim are the industry specific software you’ll be using to build, test and simulate. In practice you’ll be machining and welding and learning Mechanical Systems, Electronic and Electrical Systems, Hydraulics and Pneumatics, Micro-controller Coding and Manufacturing Methods. Our helpful and highly qualified staff are dedicated and committed to ensuring that they give our learners the best skills and valuable knowledge possible.

First Class Facilities Built for Future Engineers

You can explore theory in the college’s custom-built ELVIS engineering laboratory, giving you in-depth practical experience of analogue circuits, mechatronics, power electronics, instrumentation, digital communications, digital electronics, controls, and more.
Our Fab Lab is a rapid prototyping facility with laser and 3D printers – part of a global community of digital fabrication labs that conceptualise, design, develop, fabricate, and test almost anything. The concept began life at the renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
