This hands-on course is designed for school leavers who are ready to take their first steps into the world of engineering, metalwork, and fabrication. You’ll develop the practical skills and technical knowledge needed to build a career in industries such as construction, manufacturing, and engineering.

Throughout the course, you’ll learn:

  • Essential welding and fabrication techniques

  • How to safely use tools, machinery, and equipment in a workshop setting

  • The principles of engineering drawing and design

  • Health and safety practices for working in engineering environments

Prospective students are generally required to have:

· Maths and English at Grade 3 or above, plus two other relevant subjects at Grade 3 or above.

· Alternatively, Level 1 qualification in a related field may also be considered.

The Level 2 Diploma in Fabrication and Welding Technology provides hands-on training and theoretical knowledge to prepare you for a career in engineering, construction, or manufacturing. You will:

· Learn about different welding processes and techniques

· Gain skills in sheet metalwork, platework, and fabrication methods

· Develop practical experience using industry-standard equipment in a workshop setting

· Understand engineering principles and safe working practices

· Explore how fabrication and welding fit within the wider engineering and manufacturing industries

· Sheet metalwork

· Platework

· Welding processes (e.g. MIG, TIG, and MMA techniques)

The course often includes enrichment activities such as:

· A minimum of 30 hours of work experience

· Guest speakers from the industry

· Visits to local companies and engineering exhibitions

These experiences aim to enhance students’ understanding of the engineering sector and provide valuable industry insights.

Assessment is conducted through a combination of:

· Online multiple-choice tests

· Written examinations

· Practical assignments

  • Advance Your Studies: Level 3 Diploma in Fabrication and Welding, or Level 3 Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
  • Start an Apprenticeship: Welding, Fabrication, or Engineering Technician Apprenticeship
  • Enter the Workforce: Trainee Welder, Fabricator, Sheet Metal Worker, or Production Operative
