This one-year Level 3 Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair course is designed for those with an interest in vehicle maintenance or a career in the automotive industry, and who already hold a Level 2 automotive qualification. The qualification is designed for learners who wish to develop practical skills and understanding of motor vehicle systems. This qualification allows learners to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the Automotive industry.

Candidates must have a passion and enthusiasm to work on vehicles and have a Level 2 Automotive qualification and a high standard of English and Maths.

Course summary:

This course is a comprehensive qualification aimed at individuals pursuing a career in the Automotive sector. It equips learners with essential skills and knowledge in diagnosing and repairing light vehicles, covering core areas such as health and safety, vehicle maintenance, and diagnostic procedures. The program includes specialist units on electrical systems, engine systems, and advanced repair techniques, emphasizing practical skills through hands-on experience in workshops. Assessment is carried out through a combination of practical evaluations and theoretical exams, preparing graduates for roles as automotive technicians or service advisors and enhancing their employability and expertise in the industry.

  2. Skills in Supporting Job Roles in the Automotive Work Environment
  3. Skills in Materials, Fabrication, Tools and Measuring Devices in the Automotive Environment
  4. Knowledge of Health, Safety and Good Housekeeping in the Automotive Environment
  5. Knowledge of Support for Job Roles in the Automotive Work Environment
  6. Knowledge of Materials, Fabrication, Tools and Measuring Devices Used in the Automotive Environment
  7. Skills in Diagnosing and Rectifying Light Vehicle Combustion Engine Faults
  8. Skills in Diagnosing and Rectifying Light Vehicle Chassis System Faults
  9. Knowledge of Diagnosis and Rectification of Light Vehicle Combustion Engine Faults
  10. Knowledge in Diagnosis and Rectification of Light Vehicle Chassis Faults
  11. Knowledge of Diagnosis and Rectification of Light Vehicle Transmission and Driveline Faults
  12. Skills in the Diagnosing and Rectifying of Automotive Vehicle Auxiliary Electrical Faults
  13. Knowledge of Diagnosis and Rectification of Vehicle Auxiliary Electrical Faults
  14. Knowledge of Carrying Out Non-High Voltage Operations On, Near or With an Electric Vehicle

You will be assessed via:

  • online multiple-choice tests
  • practical observations
  • reports relating to the completion of practical tasks

On completion of this Level 3 Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair course successful learners may choose to progress to Level 4, consider a career as an apprentice in Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or gain employment within the Automotive sector.
