This course is designed for learners aged 16-19 who are eager to explore the Automotive industry and various career opportunities within the vehicle body repair sector. This program provides hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge, equipping students with the skills needed for roles such as:
• Vehicle Painter: Repairing and painting vehicle bodies
• Vehicle Prepper: Repairing of vehicle bodies and preparation for refinishing
• SMART Repairs: Small scale cosmetic repairs to vehicle bodies and wheels
• Vehicle Detailer: Cleaning of vehicles and defect rectification
By engaging in practical learning and industry exposure, students can build a strong foundation for a successful career in the automotive sector.
Modules:
This qualification consists of a combination of units from:
Core Units
• Health and Safety: Understanding safety practices in the workshop.
• Workplace Procedures: How vehicle repair businesses are organised, organisational structures and effective communication
Practical Skills
• Vehicle Repairs: Repairs to vehicle panels, mixing and application of foundation coats, application of vehicle masking, preparation for painting, rectification of defects, vehicle valeting.
• Maintenance Tasks: Maintenance of the vehicle repair workshop, maintenance of spray booths and compressed air systems, maintenance of tools and equipment including spray guns
Theoretical Knowledge
• Vehicle paint defects: Recognising different vehicle paint defects and how these can be prevented and rectified
• The preparation of different vehicle substrates: Understanding the range of materials used in vehicle repairs and the requirements for repair
• Application of different paint finishes: The theory of applying different paint coatings
• Tools and equipment: The uses, limitations and maintenance of different tools and equipment
