If you have an interest in animals and want to develop practical, personal and work-related skills, this course could be the perfect place to start.
This course is a one-year, full-time Entry Level 3 Diploma, awarded by City & Guilds, designed for school leavers aged 16–18. You will develop practical animal care skills alongside the confidence, communication and employability skills needed for your next steps into further education, training or employment.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. Throughout the year, you will learn through a combination of classroom activities, practical sessions and real-world experiences. You will have opportunities to work with a variety of animals and develop an understanding of animal welfare, safe working practices and routine industry procedures.
You will study a range of personal development, employability and animal care units, giving you the opportunity to develop both practical and workplace skills.

You will benefit from access to the college’s on-site animal facilities, including a dedicated animal room containing a variety of reptiles, amphibians, insects and small mammals. You will also have access to professional dog grooming salons, where you can develop practical grooming skills and learn about animal welfare.
Regular farm work placement will give you the opportunity to work with a wide range of livestock, including goats, cows, sheep, donkeys, ponies, chickens, ducks and rabbits.

Candidates will have a portfolio of evidence for each unit. Including worksheets and activities/assignments practical recording sheets annotated photographs, work place documentation.
Your tutors will support you throughout each unit, helping you understand what is required and providing guidance as you build your evidence. Practical activities will give you opportunities to demonstrate your skills in realistic working environments.
