This course is ideal for anyone interested in developing their communication and people skills, especially those considering a future in counselling, mentoring, support work, or other helping roles. It’s suitable for beginners and those returning to learning who want to build confidence in a supportive environment.

There are no formal entry requirements. Learners should have a willingness to take part in group activities and discussions, and an interest in developing personal and interpersonal awareness. Basic literacy skills are helpful to engage with the course materials.

Modules:

Over 3 Units the course will include:

  • Introduction to Interpersonal Skills – exploring the basics of communication
  • Listening and Responding Skills – learning to listen actively and respond with empathy
  • Verbal and Non-Verbal Communication – understanding tone, body language, and meaning
  • Developing Self-Awareness – reflecting on personal values, beliefs, and behaviours
  • Working with Others – practicing respectful, inclusive interaction
  • Preparing for Progression – exploring next steps in learning and personal development

Course delivery:

This course is for 16 weeks and delivered on a Tuesday 12PM-3PM.

The course costs £150 – support is available for this.

Assessment is done through building a portfolio of work.  There is a focus on participation, reflection, and practical activities, including role play. Learners complete a variety of worksheets and assignments, take part in group discussions and exercises that demonstrate their learning. There are no exams.

After completing this course, learners can progress to a Level 2 course in Counselling Skills, Level 2 Mentoring, Health and Social Care, or a related field. The course provides a strong foundation for personal growth and further training in helping roles.
