This course is for adult learners who have some team leadership experience or who aspire to become a team leader in the future. Learners on these courses are usually employed and work in a variety of team leader roles in a range of organisations across the private, public and third sectors.

Unemployed learners with appropriate prior work experience and/or qualifications are also welcome to apply.

This course develops and improves upon the learners’ team leading skills and knowledge in order to become successful team leaders within a variety of workplace settings. This qualification is the ideal starting point for anyone embarking on a career in management and leadership.

Course cost:

£900 in total. However, this course is fully funded for WMCA residents who fit the minimum entry criteria.

Course delivery:

18 weeks, Wednesday evenings 6-9PM, Central Campus.

A good level of English skills, both written and spoken to a minimum of a level 1 qualification in English – e.g. Functional Skills English Level 1 or GCSE English grades 2 or 3 (D or E in the old system).

Learners study three units:-

1. Being a Team Leader: this unit explores the responsibilities of team leaders and the impact of leadership styles and motivational techniques on team performance.

2. Communicating with a Team: this unit enables learners to organise and lead on team briefings

3. Personal Development as a Team Leader: this unit focuses on how learners can develop the skills and knowledge to become effective team leaders.

This course is run one evening per week at Sandwell College, each session being 3 hours.

Online, on-demand learning materials are available 24/7 and are accessible by both PCs and mobile devices. All learners are given FREE professional membership of the CMI, which includes access to a range of CMI products and services to support them throughout the qualification and later as they progress in their career.

 

 

Each learner automatically becomes a CMI member, gaining access to numerous benefits, including global networking opportunities, which significantly enhance their employment and career development prospects

All learners have access to CMI’s Career Development Centre (CDC), which provides tailored cutting-edge CPD and career resources free of charge. Through the CDC, learners can use management diagnostic tools, receive personalised development plans, get instant CV and interview feedback and build skills with expert advice videos and interactive e-learning.

All learners have the opportunity to connect with experienced managers and leaders for career guidance and support with improving their management and leadership skills, free of charge via the CMI Mentoring scheme These mentoring opportunities provide learners with a learning experience which elevates knowledge-sharing to a practical level.

Each unit is assessed by one written assignment of approximately 1,500-2,000 words. Learners are supported with assignment completion via structured assignment workshops. Learners are allowed three attempts at each assignment.

The recommended progression opportunity is to ‘top-up’ to a full CMI Level 2 Diploma in Team Leading.
