The Level 2 Diploma in Engineering – Manufacturing Technology is designed to equip students with practical skills and foundational knowledge essential for a career in engineering. This qualification focuses on hands-on experience in engineering workshop environments, covering key industry principles.

Prospective students are generally required to have:

· Four GCSEs, including Maths and English at Grade 4/C or above, plus two other relevant subjects at Grade 3 or above.

· Alternatively, Level 1 qualification in a related field may also be considered.

Students typically study six units, including:

· Principles of Engineering Technology

· Principles of Electrical and Electronics Technology

· Engineering Science and Mathematics

· Mechatronics

· Computer-Aided Engineering

· Engineering Design

Assessment methods often include online multiple-choice tests, practical assessments, and the development of a portfolio of evidence.

The Level 2 Diploma in Engineering – Manufacturing Technology course requires a minimum of 30 hours of work experience.

The college will assist with your placement, but students are encouraged to find their own as part of industrial familiarisation.

For those looking for an apprenticeship, this may prove an opportunity to secure a place at the end of the course.

Guest speakers from industry are frequently invited to the college and there are also visits to local companies and engineering exhibitions.

Apart from the external examinations, all other units are assessed by observation, short answer tests and skills-based assessments recorded in a portfolio of evidence.

Upon successful completion, students can progress to:

· Advance Your Studies: Move on to Level 3 Diploma in Engineering

· Start an Apprenticeship: Apprenticeships in various engineering fields

· Enter the Workforce: Begin working in entry-level engineering positions.

 

The course often includes enrichment activities such as:
