Sandwell College Rewind: Highlights of 2024

Let’s look at some of Sandwell College’s successes of 2024:

– We formally opened our Sandwell Science, Engineering and Manufacturing Centre, funded by the Government Towns Fund – improving the advanced facilities in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) in the heart of West Bromwich
– We started construction on a £9million skills centre in Cradley Heath, funded by the Government Towns Fund
– We signed a momentous agreement with Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust to create hundreds of opportunities at the new £18million Learning Campus at the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital, funded by the Government Towns Fund
– We expanded our facilities for learners with complex needs
– Our Careers Team achieved the Quality in Careers Standard for its industry partnerships and innovative workshops
– Our business development team partnered with Jet2.com’s Birmingham Airport team
– Jasmine, our apprentice with Doocey Group, was announced Young Apprentice of the Year
– Childcare student Saman was a finalist in the 2024 Aspiration Awards and Savanna, one of our second year T Level teaching assistants, was a West Midlands finalist in the National Apprenticeship and Skills Awards 2024
– Hamza Shaikh was named England’s under-19s captain after studying on the Sandwell College Edgbaston Cricket Education Programme
– We renewed our partnership with Wolves Esports for another two seasons, continuing to offer students invaluable hands-on experience in the rapidly expanding esports industry
– Our new partnership with Birmingham Hippodrome will give learners exclusive access to one of the city’s biggest theatre brands
– We’re proud to finish the year with our official Membership to The Chartered Institution for Further Education (CIFE). We were granted this prestigious Chartered Status at the historic Apothecaries’ Hall in the City of London, recognising us as a leading provider of education and skills training.

And we also welcomed our new CEO and Principal Lisa Capper MBE, and Deputy Principal for Curriculum and Skills, Asa Gordon, marking a new transformational phase for our future development!
