One of our Travel & Aviation alumni Sammy Mowais is on his own unforgettable journey as part of the TUI Airline team.
After completing his Level 3 BTEC Diploma at Sandwell College he is now about to embark on his third season as cabin crew, flying short and long haul.
Sammy returned to where it all started at Sandwell by sharing his career experiences up in the sky with current students who are planning their future steps.
From take-off to touchdown, he now creates memorable journeys for customers through exceptional service, safety, and a warm welcome onboard.
So Sammy, tell us about your best moments of studying at Sandwell College:
First of all, the staff. All the staff are so supportive, and they’re so encouraging towards you. I think if you put all your work in, you get the results that you need. It’s a great environment to be a part of as everyone is so supportive and it’s a great experience to have.
My favourite moment was the practicals. We did a cabin crew course and that was amazing. We were actually here in the cabin itself doing all the practical work. When I first started I didn’t know what I really wanted to do, but since doing that course it captivated me and I was instantly hooked, and I’m really happy I’m in the position that I’m in now.
What do you like most about your role?
I definitely recommend the long haul: Jamaica, Mexico, Cape Verde and also the Dominican Republic. You get to stay over for one or two whole days, you’re with all the crew, it’s so great and you get to do what you want – and you get paid to go there – so why wouldn’t you like it?!
What are your future plans?
Future aspirations for me are promotion to cabin manager, once I’ve gained the experience, and to remain with TUI which brings off such a personal family vibe for crew and passengers, and we cater for so many different types of people.
What advice would you give to someone considering studying at Sandwell College?
Definitely come to open days, as there’s so much to see and so much to offer. If anybody is interested in Travel & Aviation, 100 per cent go for it. It’s incredible, the whole department here is amazing and it’s really nice to return here. You could be doing what I’m doing right now – coming in and inspiring so many students – and it’s such a great experience to be a part of.
