Former Sandwell College student Hamza Shaikh is fast emerging as one of the names to watch in cricket after captaining England’s under-19s for their first India Test.
The young Warwickshire star, who completed our Level 3 Edgbaston Cricket Education Programme in partnership with Warwickshire CCC last year, led the young side into the series, impressing with scores of 112 and 84 against India U19s.
Top-order batter Hamza also skippered the team in last summer’s series against Sri Lanka, and was selected for the Lions against the senior Sri Lanka and West Indies touring sides.
Hamza made his senior Bears debut in August 2022 when he opened the batting in the One Day Cup against Sussex at Edgbaston.
Hamza says: “It’s a brilliant feeling to be selected for your country. Hopefully we are showing what opportunities there are in cricket to progress through the system and be given a chance to fulfil your dreams as a professional.”
Warwickshire First Team Coach Ian Westwood, said: “Hamza is a fantastic young player with a bright future ahead of him. Last year was an important one for him, and he took it impressively for England Lions.”
