Course summary:
This course targets individuals interested in:
• Repairing of damaged vehicle panels
• Preparation of vehicle panels for refinishing
• Mixing and application of vehicle finishes
• Rectification of vehicle paint defects
• Mixing and matching of vehicle finishes including pearlescent, mica and three-stage
This qualification helps students develop knowledge and skills of vehicle body repairs and refinishing.

Practical Skills
• Vehicle Repairs: Repairs to vehicle panels, mixing and application of foundation coats, application of vehicle masking, preparation for painting, application of vehicle finishes, rectification of defects, vehicle valeting, matching of vehicle colours.
• Maintenance Tasks: Maintenance of the vehicle repair workshop, maintenance of spray booths and compressed air systems, maintenance of tools and equipment including spray guns
Theoretical Knowledge
• Vehicle paint defects: Recognising different vehicle paint defects and how these can be prevented and rectified
• The preparation of different vehicle substrates: Understanding the range of materials used in vehicle repairs and the requirements for repair
• Application of different paint finishes: The theory of applying different paint coatings
• Mixing and matching of vehicle finishes: How to identify vehicle finishes and use paint systems to match these finishes during repairs
