  • new to the English language and have little or no knowledge of English. You may not be literate in your own first language, and need support with basic communication in everyday situations.
  • refugees, asylum seekers or migrants. Often these people have recently arrived in an English-speaking country, and need to learn English to settle into the community and access services.
  • in need of basic skills, The course focuses on speaking, listening, reading, and writing simple English. It includes everyday topics like introducing yourself, using public transport, shopping, or asking for help.
  • preparing for further learning

ESOL Pre-Entry is usually a starting point before progressing to Entry Level 1, Entry Level 2, and so on.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. An initial assessment is carried out to identify your level of English and place you in the best possible group and level.

ESOL courses cover essential skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening at different levels (based on your entry point)
All ESOL 16-18 learners attend 4 hours of Functional Skills Maths alongside their ESOL course

We have speakers within the college and from outside who will come and give you information about sexual health, drugs, sport, careers, health, money, safety, volunteering opportunities and many more subjects.

You will be continually assessed by your teacher throughout the programme, and those ready to sit exams (nationally recognised qualifications) will be offered the opportunity to do so in December, March and June.
