The T Level Technical Qualification in Digital Support and Security is the main classroom-based element of the T Level. Students will learn using a curriculum that has been shaped by industry experts.

During the two-year programme, students will acquire the core knowledge that underpins each industry. They will develop occupationally specific skills that will allow them to enter skilled employment within a specific occupation.

The purpose of the T Level Technical Qualification in Digital Support and Security (Level 3) is to ensure students have the knowledge and skills needed to progress into highly skilled employment, an Apprenticeship or higher-level study, including university, within the specialist area of Digital Support and Security.

What are T Levels?
T Levels are two-year technical qualifications developed with employers to ensure students gain the skills and knowledge needed for their chosen industry. They are equivalent to three A Levels and combine classroom learning with practical experience, preparing students for skilled employment, apprenticeships, or further study.

Course Structure:

  • 80% Classroom Learning – Students study 14 core topic areas relevant to the Digital industry.

  • 20% Industry Placement – A minimum of 45 days on placement with an employer to gain on-the-job technical skills.

You should have 6 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including Maths and English. Vocational Tech Award qualification(s) at Level 2 Merit and above in a relevant subject, e.g. BTEC Tech Award in Digital Information Technology.

Employer Set Project

Year 2

Occupational Specialism Cyber Security

  • Task 1 – Planning a project
  • Task 2 – Identifying and fixing security defects
  • Task 3 – Designing a solution
  • Task 4a – Developing a solution
  • Task 4b – Reflective evaluation
  • IT Industry Placement

3 months, working in the industry on an Externally Set Project

 

Computing students get involved in a range of activities as part of their course, from organising gameathons to creating and editing their own magazine. Other activities our students get involved in are:

  • Book Clubs
  • Duke of Edinburgh Award
  • Sports teams and tournaments
  • Trips and outings to theme parks
  • Animation competition

The T Level Digital Support and Security course is assessed through an exam and an employer-set project

At the end of the Technical Qualification, students are expected to demonstrate threshold competence, meaning that they have gained the core knowledge and skills related to specialist area of Digital Support and Security and are well placed to develop full occupational competence with additional development and support once in employment in the digital sector.

  • IT Support or Infrastructure Technician

  • Cyber Security Administrator or Analyst

  • Incident Response Technician

  • Junior Penetration Tester

  • Cyber Risk or Operations Manager

  • Security Architect or Engineer

Further Study Options:
Students can progress to a higher-level apprenticeship or university in fields such as:

  • Cyber Security or Network Engineering

  • Computer Science or Programming

  • Database or Cyber Security Management
