GCSE English and Maths is an advantage. You’ll take part in a group interview, where you’ll be able to ask questions after the course has been discussed. This is followed by a one to one interview. If you meet the course requirements you’ll be given a place on the same day. Alternatively, you'll be advised on other courses that are available.

Follow health and safety practice in the salon
Client consultation for hair services
Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
The art of colouring hair
Colour and lighten hair
Cut women's hair
The art of dressing hair
Promote products and services to clients in a salon
There are lots of opportunities for you to participate in trips, including Harry Potter World, Drayton Manor and the Blackpool NCF Hair and Beauty competitions.
Practical elements of the course will be assessed in our state-of-the-art salons on the fifth floor within the college. You will be assessed on a service portfolio (coalition of learner’s work throughout the course). Practical exams make up 50% of the grade for each unit studied. There are two exams that are completed online with the opportunity to retake a second time if required. All exams are marked externally by the awarding body and make up 30% of the grade. A practical synoptic exam equates to 20% of the final grade which will be Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction *.
After successfully completing this course, you can go on to study Level 3 Hairdressing or Level 3 Production Arts.
