WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

This qualification is designed to support your return to study and help you develop the skills needed to progress to Level 3 courses in Health or Social Care or pursue employment opportunities in health and social care. It will also help you gain confidence in your own ability to study and progress. If you are looking for a course which is challenging and will reintroduce you to studying, with a view to progressing further in the Health and Social Care sector, then this course is for you.

FORMAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You will need to have a genuine interest in Health and Social Care. Vocational experience would be of benefit but is not mandatory.
You will also need to have Level 1 English and Maths.
You are required to attend an interview to ensure that you will be able to cope with the academic requirements of the course. This will include a numeracy and literacy assessment.
There is no mandatory placement within the course, however, it would be beneficial for you to have either paid or voluntary work experience in your chosen area to support your studies on the course.

WHAT DOES THE COURSE INVOLVE?

The qualification focuses on study skills, personal development and includes units that offer learners a taste of subject areas in health and social care such as:
• Human Physiology
• Health Promotion
• Barriers to Accessing Health
• Study Skills units.
Achievement of the Award will demonstrate you are able to study for a sustained period at an appropriate level. You will also have the opportunity to achieve your Maths and English Level 2 Functional Skills alongside the course, for which attendance is mandatory. The course will be 2 full days per week which will include the vocational qualification plus Maths and English.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Learning is assessed by a variety of methods to prepare you to study at Level 3. These include written assignments, work booklets, presentations and tutor observation. All of the assessment criteria in a unit must be met before the unit is deemed to be achieved. The unit achievement is not graded; units are either achieved or not achieved.
You will be assigned a Personal Tutor who will support you throughout your period of study and you will complete a ‘Steps to Success’ portfolio to enable progression by setting professional and personal targets.

WHERE CAN I GO NEXT?

Many of our Level 2 learners progress to Level 3 and beyond.
