
This course provides an excellent starting point for school leavers or adult learners who may currently lack the academic skills to follow their chosen career route. Learners are able to select one of two pathways: Hairdressing and Beauty or Barbering.
You will need up to Grade 2 in GCSE English and Maths, or ESOL or Functional Skills at Entry Level 3.
This course is funded for 16-18 year-olds, and may be funded for adult learners in receipt of benefits, or adults who do not hold a Level 2 qualification.
Welfare support is also available for help purchasing kits if you meet the eligibility criteria.
You will study the following mandatory units:
Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector
Presenting a Professional Image
Follow Health and Safety Working with Others
For the Hair and Beauty Pathway you will develop your skills from a choice of shampooing, styling, plaiting, skincare, basic make up, hand care and nail art.
For the Barbering Pathway you will develop your skills from a choice of styling men’s hair, shampooing, basic colouring, skincare and hand care.
There are 3 practical sessions per week, with 3 days per week of 3-hour theory sessions.
Assessments will be formative and summative through theory and practical sessions.
On successful completion of this course you can progress to a Level 2 qualification in Beauty, Hairdressing or Barbering.
Career routes include employment in Beauty or Hair Salons, Barbers, Spa Salons, NHS Care Homes or Cruise Ships. You could also become self- employed or work in the Retail sector as a product brand representative. Alternatively you could work as a trainer/educator assessing and/or teaching.
