The BTEC Level 1 Introductory Diploma in Sport is a one-year course, giving you the opportunity to develop a range of personal and employability skills, and progress to higher level study. This qualification is designed for learners who are at the very beginning of their journey and are seeking a hands-on introduction to the sport sector.

There are no formal entry requirements. You just need a keen interest in sport.

Core Units (Mandatory):

1. Being Organised – Learn how to manage time, meet deadlines, and organise work effectively
2. Developing a Personal Progression Plan – Identify personal goals and plan your next steps in education or employment

Sport Sector Optional Units (Examples):
• How Exercise Affects the Body – Understand basic fitness and how the body responds to physical activity
• Playing Sport – Develop your skills, techniques, and knowledge of rules in team or individual sports
• Training for Fitness – Learn how to take part in and design basic fitness training sessions
• Working with Others in Sport – Build teamwork, communication, and leadership through sport-related tasks
• Assisting in a Sports Activity – Gain experience in helping to plan and lead a sports session

You will develop skills in:
• Confidence and motivation
• Teamwork and communication
• Planning and organisation
• Basic sport and fitness knowledge
• Employability skills

  • Trips to Wolf Mountain Activity Centre for rock climbing, archery, bouldering, mountain biking, and abseiling
  • Coaching qualifications
  • Play and train for West Bromwich Albion Foundation
  • Use of West Bromwich Leisure Centre
  • Talks from industry professionals
  • Volunteer opportunities

Mixture of coursework and practical assessments

  • BTEC Level 2 in Sport
  • Apprenticeships in activity leadership or sport coaching
  • Functional Skills or GCSEs (especially in English and Maths)
  • Entry-level employment in leisure, sport or fitness sectors (with further training)
