Students will be either paid National Minimum Apprenticeship wage or more, depending on the employer.

We offer a structured training programme for those in employment who want to learn and we work with employers to recruit apprentices seeking an apprenticeship placement in the Dental industry.

This course is ideal for:

  • Currently working as dental practice managers who want to formalise their skills and gain a nationally recognised qualification, including a CMI level 4 qualification.
  • Aspiring dental practice managers — typically experienced dental nurses, receptionists, or administrators — looking to progress into a management role within a dental setting.

The entry requirements for this Level 4 Dental Practice Manager Apprenticeship will be decided by each employer. However, the minimum entry requirements for this Level 4 Dental Practice Manager Apprenticeship may typically be:

  • GCSE Maths and English with a Grade 4/C or higher, or Functional Skills at Level 2
  • Demonstrate a passion for the dental industry
  • Be at least 16 years of age

 

The Dental Practice Manager Level 4 Apprenticeship is a nationally recognised training program designed to develop the skills and knowledge needed to effectively manage a dental practice.

The purpose is to prepare individuals to oversee the day-to-day operations of a dental practice, ensuring high standards of patient care, regulatory compliance, financial performance, and team management.

We cover:

  • Leadership & Management – Building and leading effective teams, managing performance.
  • Regulatory Compliance – Understanding and meeting CQC standards, health & safety, GDPR.
  • Finance & Resource Management – Budgeting, stock control, practice income and cost management.
  • Patient Care & Customer Service – Ensuring a positive patient experience and handling complaints.
  • Business Operations – Scheduling, systems management, marketing, and business planning.

  1. Marketing and Business Development: Practice promotion and branding
  • Social media and communication
  • Business planning and growth strategies
  1. IT and Information Systems: Dental software systems (e.g., R4, SOE)

  • Portfolio of Evidence: Documenting practical skills and experiences gained during the course.
  • Observations: Assessing competence in real or simulated clinical environments.
  • Written Assignments: Evaluating understanding of theoretical concepts.
  • Professional Discussions: Engaging in structured conversations to demonstrate knowledge and decision-making abilities.
  • End-Point Assessment (EPA) Includes: Portfolio of evidence, Professional discussion and a presentation or project on a real business improvement initiative
  • Senior Dental or Multi-site Practice Manager: Manage multiple practices or larger, more complex operations, often with strategic responsibility.
  • Area or Regional Manager (Dental Corporate Groups): Oversee multiple sites in a regional or corporate setting, focusing on performance, compliance, and team development.
  • Operations or Business Manager (Healthcare Settings): Move into broader healthcare or private clinic management roles beyond dentistry, applying your transferable leadership and compliance skills.
  • Compliance or CQC Lead Roles: Specialise in clinical governance, auditing, and regulatory standards — roles increasingly in demand.
  • Dental Nurse Educator or Assessor: Train and assess aspiring dental nurses, often requiring teaching qualifications.
