
This is an assessment-based qualification for school leavers and adults who wish to pursue a career in Beauty Therapy. Once qualified you will be able to start work in a junior role in a beauty salon.
GCSE English and Maths at Grade 3 are an advantage.
You will complete units which will include the following:
– Follow Health and Safety Practice in the Salon
– Client Care and Communication in Beauty Related Industries
– Create an Image based on a Theme within the Hair & Beauty Sector
– Provide Manicure Treatments
– Provide Pedicure Treatments
– Provide Facial Skin Care
– Apply Make Up
– Nail Art
– Shaping and Colouring Eyebrows
A minimum of 30 hours’ work experience is compulsory for all 16 to 18 year-olds as part of the main programme. Adult learners also have the opportunity to participate in work experience but it is not mandatory.
There are many opportunities to participate in trips to places such as Harry Potter World, Drayton Manor, and Blackpool NHF Hair and Beauty competitions.
Practical elements of the course will be assessed in our state-of-the-art salons on the fifth floor within the college. Practically you will be assessed based on individual performance throughout the course to a level of competency which consists of formative and summative assessments. Theory knowledge is assessed via multiple choice online exams and/or assignments and work packs. All exams are marked externally by the awarding body, and your final grade will be a Pass.
You can progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Beauty, general massage route. You could also progress to a Level 2 Hairdressing or Nails course, or upskill by studying one of our specialised short courses. You could also gain employment in beauty salons as a therapist or become self-employed and set up your own mobile beauty business.
