This 14-week Level 1 Functional Skills Maths course helps you develop essential maths skills critical for everyday life, work and further study. Delivered at Cradley Heath Skills Campus, it covers practical maths concepts, including number operations, measurement, money, data and problem-solving – in a supportive, adult-friendly environment.

Who is this course for?

This course is designed for adults (aged 19+) who want to:

  • Refresh or improve their maths skills to a recognised Level 1 standard
  • Gain confidence working with numbers, money, measurements, data and everyday maths tasks
  • Prepare for employment, further study, or manage everyday situations with more confidence
  • Strengthen their numeracy skills for work, home or future learning
  • No formal prior maths qualifications are required.
  • You must be aged 19+
  • No previous maths qualifications are required.

Over 14 weeks, you’ll study a comprehensive range of maths topics typically covered at Level 1, such as:

  • Whole numbers: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division
  • Money calculations, percentages and simple budgeting tasks
  • Measurement: length, weight, volume, capacity, time and conversions
  • Understanding and interpreting data in tables, charts or graphs
  • Problem-solving and applying maths in everyday contexts (shopping, cooking, bills, planning, etc.)
  • Learning will be practical and contextual, with a focus on real-life tasks and skills.

You will attend two sessions per week: Monday and Friday mornings (9:30am – 11:30am) and you will be assessed by exams, with our tutoring team providing full support.

Upon successful completion of Level 1 Functional Skills Maths, you could:

  • Progress to Level 2 Functional Skills Maths
  • Take other adult courses at Cradley Heath (e.g. employability or vocational courses requiring maths)
  • Use your enhanced maths skills for work, further study, everyday life, or volunteer roles
