Build confidence supporting your child’s learning with this friendly four-week Maths for Parents and Carers taster course, delivered in person at Cradley Heath Skills Campus.
This practical course introduces the maths methods children use at school today, helping you understand key techniques so you can guide homework, learning activities, and everyday problem-solving at home. Whether you’re new to learning or simply want to refresh your skills, this course makes maths approachable, manageable, and relevant to family life.

Who is this course for?

This course is ideal for adults aged 19+ who want to:

  • Support children with homework and school-based maths
  • Understand the methods used in today’s classrooms
  • Build confidence using numbers at home and in daily tasks
  • Prepare for further maths or employability courses

Across four weekly sessions, you’ll explore practical topics through real-life and family-based scenarios, including:

  • Understanding the maths approaches used in primary and early secondary education
  • Building confidence with number, calculation and problem-solving skills
  • Using simple maths techniques to support homework and learning
  • Applying numeracy to everyday family tasks such as planning, measuring and budgeting
  • Feeling more confident using numbers in a relaxed, supportive environment

Learning takes place in small groups, with a supportive tutor guiding you through each step.

You’ll attend one half-day session per week at Cradley Heath Skills Campus.
There are no exams, instead, you’ll take part in practical tasks and activities designed to build your confidence. Your tutor will offer regular feedback as you progress.
