This introductory four-week course helps you develop the essential English skills needed for everyday life, from reading simple information to writing short messages and communicating clearly in familiar situations.
Functional Skills English Entry Level 1 is designed to build confidence step-by-step, making English feel approachable and achievable for adults returning to education.

Who is this course for?

This course is ideal for adults aged 19+ who:

  • Want to build basic English reading and writing skills
  • Would like to feel more confident communicating day-to-day
  • Are returning to learning after a break
  • Want a gentle introduction to Functional Skills
  • Plan to progress to Entry Level 2
  • No previous qualifications are required.
  • You must be aged 19+
  • No previous qualifications are required.

What will I learn?

Across weekly sessions, you’ll explore:

  • Reading simple sentences, signs and everyday information
  • Writing short words, phrases, lists and basic messages
  • Speaking clearly in familiar conversations
  • Listening and understanding short instructions
  • Building everyday vocabulary and confidence
  • Learning takes place in small, supportive groups led by an experienced tutor.
