This 16-week Level 2 qualification prepares you for teaching assistant or learning support assistant roles in schools and colleges. You’ll develop the knowledge and confidence needed to support children’s learning, promote wellbeing, understand behaviour and contribute effectively to classroom environments.

The course is ideal for adults ready to progress into school-based roles or take their next step in early years or educational support. Through practical examples, discussions and structured activities, you’ll gain a clear understanding of what it’s like to work in education and how support staff play a vital role in children’s development.
Delivered at Cradley Heath Skills Campus, this course provides a supportive, adult-focused environment where you can build professional skills.

Who is this course for?

Suitable for adults aged 19+ who want to:
• Work in primary, secondary or college settings
• Develop skills needed for teaching assistant or support roles
• Progress to Level 3 childcare or education qualifications
• Understand behaviour, communication and safeguarding in education
• Build confidence for employment or volunteering

Level 1 experience is helpful but not required.

• You must be aged 19+
• Funding available for adults living in the West Midlands Combined Authority area

Across 16 weeks, you will study:
• Supporting children’s learning and development
• Safeguarding responsibilities in schools and colleges
• Building positive relationships with children and families
• Understanding behaviour and promoting wellbeing
• Professional roles and expectations within education settings

You will attend two sessions per week. Assessment is based on coursework, reflective tasks and tutor feedback — no exams.
