Give your baby or toddler the best possible start by developing your confidence in early communication. This four-week taster course explores how young children communicate, why early interaction is essential for emotional and language development, and how simple, everyday activities can help your child feel secure, supported and understood.

You’ll learn how babies express needs through sounds, gestures and behaviour, and discover practical ways to encourage early language through play, talking, reading and shared routines. The course is ideal for parents, carers or anyone exploring a future role in early years or family support.

Delivered at Cradley Heath Skills Campus, part of the number one West Midlands’ College for student achievement, you’ll study in a supportive, calm environment designed to help adults build confidence and enjoy learning.

Who is this course for?

This course is perfect for adults aged 19+ who want to:
• Strengthen early communication with babies and toddlers
• Learn simple techniques to support early language
• Build confidence in responding to children’s needs
• Explore future roles in early years or childcare
• Understand how early communication supports development

No qualifications needed.

• You must be aged 19+
• Fully funded for most adults living in the West Midlands Combined Authority area

You will explore:
• How babies and toddlers communicate their needs
• The importance of eye contact, voice, gesture and routine
• Play-based strategies to encourage early language
• Reading, singing and talk activities for early learning
• Supporting emotional security and bonding
