Delivered in collaboration with the University of Wolverhampton, this industry-focused programme is designed to equip aspiring coaches with the essential knowledge, skills and practical experience required to thrive in diverse coaching environments.
The Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching and Development is a full-time two-year comprehensive course designed to provide you with a deeper understanding of areas such as sports psychology, fitness training, anatomy, and inclusive practice. This programme is ideal if you want to become a qualified sports coach working in schools, clubs, or community settings; work in sports development, helping to increase participation and engagement in sport; progress into PE teaching via top-up degrees and PGCE routes.
The course is aimed at:
- people who have completed a BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Sport, A Levels (preferably including PE or Biology) or a Level 3 apprenticeships in sport or fitness
- aspiring sports coaches who want to develop technical and pedagogical coaching skills, and gain experience working with children, youth, or adult participants in various settings
- adults looking for a career change in the sports or fitness industry, especially if they already have informal experience coaching or volunteering in sport
- people currently in assistant roles (e.g. teaching assistants in PE, youth sports leaders) who want to gain a formal qualification and progress in their careers
- learners who plan to top up to a full BSc (Hons) degree after completing the foundation course
