The Level 2 Certificate in Health and Well-being, offered by AIM Qualifications and Assessment Group, aims to enhance learners’ understanding of health and well-being, both personally and professionally. It is designed for individuals seeking to deepen their knowledge in Health Care or Social Care area, whether for personal development, and professional advancement.

The course is aimed adult learners aged 19+

To apply for this Level 2 Certificate in Skills for Further Study in Health, you will need:

  • You will need to have Level 1 English and Maths.
  • You will need to have a genuine interest in health and social care. Vocational experience would be of benefit but is not mandatory.
  • You are required to attend an interview to ensure that you will be able to cope with the academic requirements of the course.
  • This will include a numeracy and literacy assessment.
  • There is a mandatory placement within the course. It would also be beneficial for you to have either paid or voluntary work experience in your chosen area to support your studies on the course.

This qualification offers learners the opportunity to prepare to work with adults in the social care sector. Learners will develop confidence, become responsible citizens, and understand how to manage risk and embrace change. It also allows learners to build on their existing knowledge and skills in areas like study, mathematics, literacy, and science.

Modules:

  • Awareness of Health and Wellbeing – Learners will understand the meaning of health and well-being, and the factors that influence it. They will understand the different types of health services that exist locally
  • Healthy Lifestyles – Learners will be encouraged to make healthy lifestyle choices by recognising the importance of a balanced diet, exercise and good mental health.
  • Understanding Stress – Learners will know about stress, the causes of stress and effects of stress on an individual. They will know how to manage stress.
  • Interpersonal Communication Skills – Learners will develop understanding of improving interpersonal communication skills and demonstrate knowledge of strategies to overcome barriers to communication.
  • Teamwork Skills – Learners will know about team work and team working skills. They will look at roles and responsibilities of team members. Learners will know how to work within a team and be able to assess the performance of a team.
  • Dementia Awareness – Learners will understand common types of dementia, how individuals can be affected by dementia and the care available for them.
  • Values and Beliefs – To develop learners understanding of beliefs and values, and how they can influence attitudes, opinions and behaviour.
  • Equality and Diversity awareness – Learners will understand equality and diversity. They will understand the effects of stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination on individuals.
  • Understanding Body Image – Learners will know about body image and how it is portrayed in the media. They will know about cultural and historical influences on body image and other influences on own body image
  • Sex and relationships – Learners will know about different sexual relationships, the risks associated with these relationships and legislation related to sexual relationships. Learners will know changes in the male and female body, methods of contraception and ways to maintain good sexual health

AIM Qualifications and Assessment Group is a UK-based Awarding Organisation (AO) and Access Validating Agency (AVA) that offers various qualifications and assessments. They have a long history, with over 40 years of experience in developing and awarding qualifications. Their mission is to empower learners through inclusive and high-quality education and training.

  • The Care Show at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham
  • The Dementia Show at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham
  • Visit to Worcester Medical Museum (Worcester Medical Infirmary and the George Marshall Medical Museum)
  • The use of Virtual Reality in the Class Room (First Aid at work; Mental Health Practitioner, and Dementia Awareness)

Learning is assessed by a variety of methods to prepare you to study at Level 3. These include written assignments, work booklets, presentations and tutor observation.

All of the assessment criteria in a unit must be met before the unit is deemed to be achieved. The unit achievement is not graded; units are either achieved or not achieved.

You will be assigned a Personal Tutor who will support you throughout your period of study to enable progression by setting professional and personal targets.

This Level 2 Certificate in Health and Wellbeing qualification is designed to support your return to study and help you develop the skills needed to progress to Level 3 courses in health or social care or pursue employment opportunities in health and social care.

It will also help you gain confidence in your own ability to study and progress. If you are looking for a course which is challenging and will reintroduce you to studying, with a view to progressing further in the health and social care sector, then this course is for you.
