The Introduction to FE Pathway is designed to act as transitional support for learners who will all require specific focus on addressing previous historical attendance and participation needs in education. Learners accessing the Intro to FE pathway may have SEND or SEMH needs, although they may also have had no previous additional support needs identified. The pathway includes strong focus on preparation to progress on to a suitable vocational area and is 1 year in length. Learners attending the Preparation for FL Pathway share some of the same typical characteristics as learners on its sister programme (Intro to FE), but also typically have come from PRU or alternative provision settings.
These learners would have attended school in a very small-sized provision with high levels of support, shortened/adapted timetables and had previous concerns relating to engagement and/or behaviour management. The Prep for FL programme aims to develop and promote positive engagement, targeted supported, a gradual transition into an FE setting with a clear awareness of the complexities related to learner’s previous relationships with education/institutions. Typical progress routes from Intro to FE include cross-college study or apprenticeship/traineeship programmes. Typical progression routes from Prep for FL also include cross-college study or Foundation Learning pathways such as Independence, Sport or Employment.
The core aims of the pathway include:
· Cross-college tasters
· Work experience
· Bespoke careers advice and guidance
· Developing awareness of own behaviour and mental-wellbeing
· Developing awareness of own aspirations and goals
· Transition to FE setting
· Gaining initial qualifications in English & Maths
