This ESOL Functional Skills Maths Entry Level 2 course is designed for adults who are learning English as a second or other language and want to build basic maths skills for everyday life in the UK. It is ideal for:

  • ESOL learners new to the UK – Adults who are beginning to learn English and need to develop simple number and maths skills for daily use.
  • Adults improving English and maths together – Learners who want to improve their confidence in using maths while also practising English vocabulary and understanding.
  • Job seekers and learners starting from basics – People who want to gain essential maths knowledge to prepare for work, training, or future qualifications.
  • Individuals managing everyday tasks – Anyone who wants to use maths in real-life situations, such as shopping, using money, telling time, or reading basic information.

This course supports learners in understanding and using simple maths with confidence. It helps with numbers, shapes, time, and money, and it also develops the language needed to talk about maths in English. It is especially helpful for those taking their first steps in education in the UK and wanting to become more independent in everyday life. Our supportive tutors will guide you throughout your learning journey, providing personalised feedback and plenty of practice opportunities. Whether your goal is to improve confidence in maths for daily life, meet job requirements, or progress to Entry Level 3 Functional Skills, this course provides the essential foundation you need to succeed.

If you are learning English and want to build your maths skills for everyday life, work, or further study, our Entry Level 2 Maths course is a great place to start.

This course is specifically designed for adult ESOL learners and is taught by experienced, supportive tutors who understand the challenges of learning maths and English simultaneously. Classes are part-time, with flexible options including evening sessions to fit around your work and family life.
What you’ll gain:

· Confidence in using numbers up to 100 for counting, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing
· Skills to handle everyday money tasks like shopping, adding prices, and giving or checking change
· Ability to tell the time (hours and half hours), use calendars, and understand days, weeks, and months
· Understanding of basic measurements like length, weight, and capacity using simple units
· Knowledge of 2D and 3D shapes, and use of simple position words like “next to” and “behind”
· Ability to sort information and read simple tables, charts, and lists
· English language support while learning maths to help you understand new words and instructions
· Preparation for the official Pearson Edexcel Entry Level 2 Functional Skills Maths assessment, recognised by employers and colleges in the UK

English in Maths

  • Learn key maths vocabulary in English (e.g., total, add, take away, bigger, smaller)
  • Follow simple spoken and written instructions related to maths tasks
  • Budgeting and managing money (calculating totals, change, discounts)
  • Planning and using time effectively (schedules, appointments, travel times)
  • Using maths language to explain and solve problems clearly in English
  • Problem-solving using practical maths scenarios (shopping, cooking, travel)

You’ll take two short exams (40–50 minutes each):

  • Non-calculator exam: Covers basic skills like counting, addition, subtraction, measuring, shapes, time, and simple data.

  • Calculator exam: Involves using a calculator to solve problems with money, percentages, measurements, and more.

After completing Entry Level 2 Functional Skills Maths, you have several pathways to continue your learning or enhance your career opportunities:
