This course is for adult learners who have some team management/leadership experience or who aspire to become a team manager/ leader in the future. Learners on these courses are usually employed and work in a variety of team leader/ supervisor roles in a range of organisations across the private, public and third sectors.

Unemployed learners with appropriate prior work experience and/or qualifications are also welcome to apply.

This course equips learners with the detailed knowledge, skills and behaviours to manage and lead effectively. This enables them to fully develop or sharpen their professional edge and enhance their personal effectiveness in the workplace.

Course delivery:

The course is delivered fully online with ‘real-time’ interactive classes taking place on Thursdays 6 – 9 pm, using the Zoom video conferencing platform.

Course cost:

£2,100 in total However, this course is fully funded for WMCA residents who fit the minimum entry criteria.

Course duration:

34 Weeks (one, three-hour evening class a week)

A minimum of five GCSEs at grade C or above including English or equivalent qualifications.

However, mature applicants (over 21 years) with relevant work experience (paid and/or unpaid) may be able to join the course in lieu of formal qualifications, subject to satisfactory performance at a selection interview.

Learners will study seven units:-

1. Principles of Management and Leadership: this unit focuses on the foundations for management and leadership practice – i.e. the ways in which organisations operate and how to apply management and leadership approaches effectively.

2. Managing a Team to Achieve Results: this unit develops learners’ understanding of the nature of teams in the workplace and how to manage teams to achieve results.

3. Managing Individuals to be Effective in their Roles: this unit develops the learners’ understanding of how to support individuals they manage to not only perform well, but to exceed expectations.

4. Principles of Equity, Diversity and Inclusive Working Practice: this unit focusses on how learners can develop inclusive working practices in line with organisational and legal frameworks to improve the productivity and wellbeing of staff.

5. Supporting Teams and Individuals through Change: this unit enables learners to lead people positively through change, by implementing plans to make change successful and gaining the trust and support of individuals and teams.

6. Managing Budgets and Resources: this unit equips learners with the knowledge that they need to manage budgets and other resources efficiently and effectively.

7. Managing Own Personal and Professional Development: this unit supports the learner to engage in personal and professional development and create a development plan to enable them to become effective managers

 

Each learner automatically becomes a CMI member, gaining access to numerous benefits, including global networking opportunities, which significantly enhance their employment and career development prospects.

All learners have access to CMI’s Career Development Centre (CDC), which provides tailored cutting-edge CPD and career resources free of charge. Through the CDC, learners can use management diagnostic tools, receive personalised development plans, get instant CV and interview feedback and build skills with expert advice videos and interactive e-learning.

All learners have the opportunity to connect with experienced managers and leaders for career guidance and support with improving their management and leadership skills, free of charge via the CMI Mentoring scheme These mentoring opportunities provide learners with a learning experience which elevates knowledge-sharing to a practical level.

Each unit is assessed by one written assignment of approximately 2,000-2,500 words. Learners are supported with assignment completion via structured assignment workshops. Learners are allowed three attempts at each assignment.

Progression opportunities include moving on to CMI level 5 qualifications for example, CMI Level 5 Certificate/Diploma in Management and Leadership, CMI Level 5 in Project Management and CMILevel 5 Online Bitesize courses in a range of cutting-edge management topics.

Learners who are aspiring to work in a management role may be able to progress to jobs such as:-

· First Line Manager

· Team leader

· Supervisor

· Project Officer

· Shift Manager
