Discover how play can help your child grow in confidence, independence and emotional resilience with this practical four-week taster course at Cradley Heath Skills Campus. You’ll explore the different types of play that support learning and wellbeing, understand how children use play to process emotions and develop new skills, and learn simple low-cost activities you can use at home.

Ideal for parents, carers or adults exploring early years or education roles, this course focuses on hands-on learning and real-life examples that are easy to apply to everyday family life. You’ll build confidence interacting with children through purposeful play and gain an understanding of how play supports social, emotional and cognitive development.

You will study in a warm, welcoming adult learning environment designed to build confidence and help adults return to education successfully.

Who is this course for?

This course is ideal for adults aged 19+ who want to:
• Support children’s confidence and resilience through play
• Learn creative, purposeful activities to use at home
• Understand how play supports early development
• Explore whether working with children is a potential future pathway
• Build confidence before progressing to childcare qualifications

No previous childcare experience required.

• You must be aged 19+
• Fully funded for most adults living in the West Midlands Combined Authority area

Over four weekly sessions, you’ll explore:
• The role of play in children’s emotional and social development
• Using play to build confidence, self-esteem and independence
• Creating fun, low-cost, purposeful play activities at home
• Encouraging problem solving, creativity and communication through play
• Understanding everyday behaviours through a play-based lens

Learning is practical and interactive, with activities you can try immediately.

You will attend one weekly session with no exams. You’ll complete simple practical activities and receive supportive feedback to help strengthen your confidence and understanding.
