Build essential home maintenance skills and gain confidence tackling basic repairs with this practical four-week DIY course for beginners. Whether you want to feel more confident maintaining your own home or are exploring a future in construction, this course gives you hands-on experience using tools, fixing common issues and completing simple projects safely.

You’ll learn practical techniques you can use straight away, from drilling and fixing to measuring, maintenance and basic carpentry and decorating tasks. Designed for adults with little or no experience, every session is supportive, practical and delivered in a fully equipped workshop.

Who is this course for?

Designed for adults aged 19+ who want to:
• Build confidence completing DIY projects at home
• Learn practical tools and repair skills
• Explore whether a construction trade might be right for them
• Improve self-sufficiency in home maintenance
• Gain experience before progressing to longer construction courses

No experience needed.

• You must be aged 19+
• Fully funded for most adults living in the West Midlands Combined Authority area

Across four practical sessions you will explore:
• Safe and effective use of basic tools
• Drilling, fixing and assembling practical items
• Measuring, cutting and simple carpentry tasks
• Basic painting, decorating and repair techniques
• Everyday maintenance and problem-solving skills

Learning is fully hands-on, with real tools, materials and guided practice.
