Thinking about refreshing your home or exploring a potential new trade? This practical four-week introduction to painting and decorating is the ideal place to start.

You’ll learn basic painting and finishing techniques, practise safe use of tools and materials, and gain confidence completing small decorating tasks. Each session is hands-on and designed for adults with little or no experience, making it accessible whether you’re decorating at home or considering a future role in the construction industry.

Delivered at Cradley Heath Skills Campus, this course gives you a supportive and welcoming environment to build real, practical skills.

Who is this course for?

Ideal for adults aged 19+ who want to:
• Learn basic painting and decorating skills
• Improve confidence completing home decorating projects
• Explore whether a trade career might be right for them
• Build practical skills before progressing to further study
• Gain hands-on experience in a friendly workshop setting

No experience required.

• You must be aged 19+
• Fully funded for most adults living in the West Midlands Combined Authority area

Throughout the four weeks, you will learn:
• How to prepare surfaces before painting
• Safe and effective use of painting tools and equipment
• Basic painting techniques including cutting-in and rolling
• Applying decorative finishes and simple design techniques
• Understanding materials, paint types and safe working practices

Learning is fully practical and guided by experienced tutors.
