This 14-week Level 2 Functional Skills Maths course builds on existing maths knowledge to help you meet the demands of work, study and daily life with confidence. Based at Cradley Heath Skills Campus, the course covers more advanced numeracy, problem-solving, data interpretation, and real-world maths applications. The supportive, purpose-built environment and adult-friendly approach make this an ideal option for those seeking a recognised qualification to help with employment, further learning or personal goals.

Who is this course for?

This course is ideal for adults (aged 19+) who:

  • Have some existing maths skills and want to develop them further to Level 2 standard
  • Need strong numeracy skills for work, courses, or daily life (e.g. budgeting, measurements, data interpretation)
  • Want a recognised qualification to support applications for jobs, training, or further study
  • Are committed to two sessions a week and ready to build on their mathematical understanding
  • Previous maths experience — for example, a Level 1 qualification or equivalent — is helpful but not mandatory.
  • You must be aged 19+
  • No previous maths qualifications are required.

Over 14 weeks, you will cover a broad and practical set of maths topics including:

  • Working confidently with whole numbers, decimals, fractions, percentages, ratio and proportion
  • Money, measurements (length, weight, capacity, time), conversions, and budgeting
  • Interpreting, analysing and using data from charts, tables and graphs
  • Problem-solving using real-life contexts (household budgeting, work tasks, planning, calculations)
  • Developing accuracy and skills to apply maths in work or study settings

By studying at Cradley Heath Skills Campus, you benefit from:

  • A modern, purpose-built adult learning campus — one of the newest in the West Midlands
  • A dedicated team experienced in working with adult learners to support their success
  • Part of Sandwell College — the top college group in the West Midlands for student achievement
  • A supportive and friendly community of adult learners sharing the same goal of improving maths for work, study or life

Classes take place twice weekly, Monday and Friday afternoons (12:30pm – 2:30pm).
Assessment is via practical tasks, problem-solving exercises and real-world maths scenarios rather than formal exams. Tutors will support you throughout, offering guidance and feedback to build confidence and competence.

After completing Level 2 Functional Skills Maths, you could:

  • Use your qualification to support applications for employment, further training, or higher-level study
  • Combine maths with other adult learning or vocational pathways at Cradley Heath Skills Campus
  • Apply your strengthened maths skills in real life — at work, home, or in further education.
