This 14-week course offers a solid foundation in essential maths skills, helping you gain the confidence and competence to use maths in everyday life, work or further study. Throughout the course you will develop your understanding of numbers, measures, data and practical problem-solving – all in a friendly, supportive classroom environment at Cradley Heath Skills Campus. As part of the top-performing college group in the West Midlands, you’ll learn in a modern, purpose-built campus designed to support adult learners of all backgrounds.

Who is this course for?

This course is ideal for adults (19+) who want to:

  • Develop or refresh their confidence with numbers, money, time, measures and basic data handling
  • Build a recognised qualification in maths that helps with daily tasks, work and further learning
  • Improve practical numeracy skills needed for jobs, life or study
  • Progress from basic number-work and prepare for higher-level maths
  • No prior maths qualifications are required.
  • You must be aged 19+
  • No previous maths qualifications are required.

Over the 14 weeks, you will cover a broad range of practical maths skills, including:

  • Working confidently with whole numbers, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Using and interpreting money, time, measurements, weights and other everyday calculations
  • Reading, interpreting and using data from tables, charts and diagrams
  • Solving simple maths problems and applying maths to real-life tasks (shopping, budgeting, planning, measuring)
  • Developing skills to check, interpret and present results in everyday contexts
  • Understanding of number system; measures, shape and space; and handling information and data
  • Learning will take place in small groups, with tutors guiding you through step-by-step exercises and real-life scenario work.

Classes run two sessions per week (Tuesday and Thursday – 9:30am-11:30am). Assessment is continuous through practical tasks and activities, not formal examinations, allowing you to demonstrate your growing maths confidence in everyday contexts.

After completing Entry Level 2, you’ll be well placed to progress to Entry Level 3 Functional Skills Mathematics.
If appropriate, Level 1 Functional Skills or other adult learning pathways.
Courses or work that require practical maths, such as budgeting, employment, household management or further training.
