This four-week taster course provides a friendly introduction to Entry Level Functional Skills Maths, focusing on building confidence with whole numbers and everyday number skills. You’ll learn how to use maths in real-life situations, from handling money and understanding time to working with measurements and simple problem-solving.

Delivered in person at Cradley Heath Skills Campus, this supportive and practical course is perfect for adults who want to refresh their basic maths knowledge or prepare for further study.

Who is this course for?

This course is ideal for adults aged 19+ who want to:

  • Build confidence using numbers in everyday tasks
  • Strengthen basic calculation and number skills
  • Improve readiness for further Functional Skills or employability courses
  • Apply maths to real-life situations such as shopping, budgeting, planning and measuring
  • Return to learning in a friendly, supportive environment
  • No previous maths qualifications are required.
  • You must be aged 19+
  • No previous maths qualifications are required.

Across four weekly sessions, you will explore practical number skills through real-life tasks, including:

  • Recognising, reading and writing whole numbers
  • Counting, comparing and understanding number size and value
  • Using simple addition and subtraction in everyday situations
  • Working with money, time and basic measurements
  • Understanding simple information in charts or lists
  • Applying whole number skills to daily life, including shopping, planning, household tasks

Learning takes place in small groups and uses step-by-step activities designed to build confidence.

You’ll attend one morning or afternoon session each Wednesday at Cradley Heath Skills Campus.
There are no exams, instead, you’ll complete short practical tasks and activities that show your understanding, with your tutor providing regular guidance and feedback.

This course is a great first step towards further maths and personal development opportunities at Cradley Heath, including:

  • Maths Functional Skills Entry Level 2
  • Maths Functional Skills Entry Level 3

You’ll also gain valuable skills for everyday numeracy, supporting your family, preparing for work, or progressing into further study.
