This 14-week course builds strong English reading, writing, speaking and listening skills needed for everyday tasks, community life and preparation for Level 1 Functional Skills.
You’ll develop confidence writing short paragraphs, understanding longer texts and communicating clearly in group discussions. This course is ideal for adults looking to progress in learning, work or daily life.
You will study in a supportive environment at Cradley Heath Skills Campus — part of the West Midlands’ number one college group for student achievement.

Who is this course for?

This course is designed for adults aged 19+ who:

  • Want to strengthen everyday English skills
  • Need to read and understand longer information
  • Want to improve writing accuracy and structure
  • Are preparing for Functional Skills Level 1
  • Want more confidence using English at home and work
  • No previous qualifications are required.
  • You must be aged 19+
  • No previous qualifications are required.

What will I learn?

Across 14 weekly sessions, you will develop a strong foundation in English through practical, real-life tasks, including:

  • Reading longer texts such as emails, letters, leaflets and workplace information
  • Writing short paragraphs with improved punctuation, grammar and structure
  • Speaking clearly in group discussions and listening for important details
  • Understanding information, purpose and tone in everyday English
  • Building vocabulary needed for everyday tasks, community activities and early work opportunities

Learning is based on real-life examples, practical activities and supportive group discussion.
