A legal career awaits Mohammed who has just achieved his life-changing GCSE Maths grade 4.
Currently in a voluntary role providing front of house support for the Sandwell College ESOL team, Mohammed first enrolled as an ESOL student two years ago after coming to the UK from Kurdistan as a 21-year-old, and has since excelled in Access to HE with 100% Distinctions.
He has already been offered a place to study Law and Criminology at the University of Birmingham, and hopes to combine part-time employment as a college Admissions team member with his degree study.
As you would expect, Mohammed, who gained his English Language degree in Kurdistan, and is also fluent in Arabic along with his native Kurdish, already has his GCSE English. But GCSE Maths is the missing piece of the jigsaw which will allow him to continue his learner journey and achieve his ultimate ambition of becoming a lawyer and establishing his own law firm.
Mohammed says: “It’s only fair that I contribute back to the country that provided me with shelter and protected me, and that I repay the debt. Having GCSE Maths is life-changing. It’s a requirement for every career you apply for, so to have a degree is my dream.”
He has nothing but praise for the teachers who have supported him to achieve his dreams, saying: “The teachers here are so supportive, both emotionally and they provide the best knowledge. It’s amazing to know this family. They support us like their own children.”
“Life can be hard, but at the end of the day you have to come back stronger and thrive for it. I’ve got the blueprint for success. If you have the will you’ll make it.”
On an Ocean Wave
Reza is now embracing an exciting future in maritime technology after gaining a grade 4 in GCSE English.
Reza has a place to study Nautical Science at Southampton Solent University, and it was all hanging on passing his English.
He already had grade 6 Maths and nailed his interview for a degree place and a scholarship offer – due to some helpful tips given to him by his tutor in advance.
Reza was forced to leave Iran in 2023 and says these results have changed everything for him as he turns 30.
“We learnt skills to have a successful life. The content was beneficial and it has really impacted my life. I was already a cadet in my country but was not able to finish my education.”
